How to save design files

Saving your design isn’t complicated. We’ve provided you with these direct mail resources to save your mail from the templates we’ve provided. Follow the formatting to ensure quality and a seamless upload process.

When Uploading

When you upload your content into The Big Mail Project, you will need to save your files out as separate files (front & back) for postcards. Letters can be multi-page, but need to be combined into a multi-page PDF when uploading.

InDesign

To help ensure the quality of your document for uploading, use the current document settings. For optimal, true color formats, use JPEG or PDF formats for uploading your document.

Requirements:

Indesign CS4 and above

How to save a JPEG

  1. File > Save your document
  2. File > Export
  3. Format > Select JPEG as your end destination
  4. Click Save
  5. Export JPEG > Select the following settings
    • All
    • Pages
    • Quality: Maximum
    • Resolution(ppi): 300
    • Color Space: CMYK
    • Use Document Bleed Settings
    • Use Document Bleed Settings
  6. Click Export

How to save a PNG

    1. File > Save your document
    2. File > Export
    3. Format > Select PNG as your end destination
    4. Click Save
    5. Export PNG > Select the following settings
      • All
      • Pages
      • Quality: Maximum
      • Resolution(ppi): 300
      • Color Space: RGB
      • Use Document Bleed Settings
    6. Click Export

  1. File > Save your document
  2. File > Export
  3. Format > Select Adobe PDF (Print) as your end destination
  4. Click Save
  5. In the Export Adobe PDF settings dialogue, ensure the following settings:
    • General Tab
      • Pages > All
      • Pages > Pages
    • Mark and Bleeds Tab
      • Uncheck any Printer Marks
      • Check Use Document Bleed Settings
  6. Click Export

Photoshop

To help ensure the quality of your document for uploading, use the current document settings. For optimal, true color formats, use JPEG or PDF formats for uploading your document.

How to save a JPEG

  1. File > Save
  2. File > Save As
  3. Format > Select JPEG as your end destination
  4. Click Save
  5. In the JPEG Options Dialogue, ensure these settings are right
    • Image options
      • Quality > 12
    • Format options
      • Baseline (“Standardized”) is checked
  6. Click OK to save your document

How to save a PNG

    1. File > Save
    2. File > Save As
    3. Format > Select PNG as your end destination
    4. Click Save
    5. In the PNG Format Options, ensure these settings are right
      • File Size
        • Large file size (Fastest saving)
    6. Click OK to save your document

How to save a PDF

  1. File > Save
  2. File > Save As
  3. Format > Select Photoshop PDF as your end destination
  4. Click Save
  5. In the Save Adobe PDF dialogue, ensure these settings are right
    • General Tab
      • Deselect Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities
      • Deselect Optimize for Fast Web Preview
  6. Click Save to save your document

Illustrator

Requirements:

  • Illustrator CS4 and above
  • These directions are for the Adobe Create Cloud Suite, if you are using an older platform, you may need to review older documentation on the Adobe website for the following parameters.

How to save a JPEG

  1. File > Save
  2. File > Export > Export as…
  3. In the Format option select JPEG
  4. Check Use Artboards Option
  5. Click Save
  6. In the JPEG Optiions dialogue make sure these settings are selected:
    • Color Model: CMYK
    • Quality: 10
    • Compression Method: Baseline (Standard)
    • Resolution: High (300ppi)
  7. Click OK to save your document

How to save a PNG

    1. File > Save
    2. File > Export > Export as…
    3. In the Format option select PNG
    4. Check Use Artboards Option
    5. Click Save
    6. In the PNG Options dialogue make sure these settings are selected:
      • Resolution: High (300ppi)
      • Background Color: White
    7. Click OK to save your document

How to save a PDF

  1. File > Save
  2. File > Save As…
  3. In the Format option select Adobe PDF
  4. Click Save
  5. In the Save Adobe PDF Options dialogue make sure these settings are selected/deselected:
    • General Tab
      • Uncheck Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities
    • Marks and Bleeds
      • Uncheck All Printer Marks
      • Check Use Document Bleed Settings
    • Click Save PDF to save your document
    • Click OK to finish out the save process.

PowerPoint

How to save a JPEG

  1. File > Save
  2. File > Export
  3. File Format > JPEG
    • Select Save Current Slide (Should only have one (1) slide)
    • Do not adjust the width/height
  4. Click Save

How to save a PNG

  1. File > Save
  2. File > Export
  3. File Format > PNG
  4. Select Save Current Slide (Should only have one (1) slide)
  5. Do not adjust the width/height
  6. Click Save

How to save a PDF

  1. File > Save
  2. File > Export
  3. File Format > PDF
  4. Click Save

Word

How to save a PDF

  1. File > Save
  2. File > Print
  3. In the bottom left corner, select Save As PDF…
  4. Click Save

Postcard Uploading

If you have artwork on both sides of your postcards, you may need to follow one of these processes twice to upload images. One image per side is uploaded into Big Mail.
